We have our solar panels installed. These are the first of several and are intended to provide us minimal power as and wehn required. Power is of course available in Bardia, but as with anywhere in Nepal it can be erratic at times, so we wanted solar to cover us when there isnt any power and – as an alternative to a noisy fuel guzzling generator.
Well its taken quite some time to get the methodology right, but we are there now. The idea dates back quite some time, but to actually create fully fucnctioning ‘westernised’ toilets that are entirely eco-friendly has been a real challenge. One of the owners, Martin, picked up the idea in Tanzania and decided that this was the way forward if we ever wanted to capture the real spirit of not degrading the environment with the spoils of our living.
Well we’ve applied the finishing touches to several more of the bedrooms. So are now able to offer rooms in several different cottages. We’ve been sure to include mosquito nets, so you dont have to worry about bringing your own.
Well we’ve been working hard on the detail. another pair of rooms is just about ready to go. Rachel has sourced some locally made furniture to use in the rooms (only had one photo at time of writing, more to come). Managed to get more good beds and bedding into the new rooms. Expecting yet more guests in next few days. Its definitely a great time to be welcomed at our Lodge.
Sometimes its nice just to take a few photos for no reason atall. Over time, we’re quite sure that this blog will be hugely popular especially with our customers. Below are just a few recent photgraphs.
Well things are really pushing ahead now. Lots of minor changes being made and final touches being organised. Rachel is working extremly hard to ensure that all our customers, have a perfect stay at the lodge. (including those who arrive prior to opening). We’ve still got plenty to do of course, but as long as the lodge is comfortable, the food fulfilling and the park is open – we know you are going to enjoy your stay with us.
Without local contribution and assistance we wouldnt be here, so wherever possible we invite our neighbours, and the local workers to come along where we play host. Having members of the local Tharu community visiting the lodge is a wonderful way for guests to experience local customs and culture.
It’s early days as we start to entertain our first guests, despite the Lodge not being officially open yet. We’ve entered a few photos taken over the past week or so of a few sightings.
What a great week in terms of getting things finalised. We even welcomed our first guest. A swiss guy that has driven overland from Switzerland, that just had to stay, despite not really being open just yet.
Our impromptu guest was treated to a Thai curry by Madhu and Shitram as he had a few European supplies in his vehicle.
