There are more than 100 Asiatic elephants in Bardia National Park. They are the largest of all mammals in Nepal, weighing about 5000 kg. They are an animal very sociable, which normally walks in a herd and with an average life expectancy similar to that of humans.
The best time of year to see elephants is during the dry season, between March and May, when the grass is less and due to the elevated temperatures, the elephants travel more regularly to the river to drink water and refresh themselves. Sometimes is not easy to see them, so you need to be patient and it will be worth it.
Since the park is so close to the Indian border, the Bardia elephants regularly cross the border. and it is sometimes difficult to see them.
The jungle walks activity is the one with the highest chance of seeing the elephants, as we often go after the footprints and tracks that the animals leave behind. This part makes the experience remarkably interesting, although we may not see the elephants, as we can see the huge size of their footprints and follow them, looking for them in the middle of the vegetation.
In our Eco Lodge there is no elephant riding safari available. We are concerned about animal welfare and wildlife and do not go on safaris on top of elephants. Here we are protectors of nature and animal welfare.
