The actual park entrance, and our lodge, are situated close to the small village of Thakurdawa, 14km southwest along a dirt/gravel road from Ambassa on the main East-West Mahendra Highway through Nepal's Terai region, in the far West of Nepal.
From Kathmandu by bus: Daily buses run from Kathmandu to Mahendrenagar (alight at Ambassa). The bus takes around 15-17 hours and is a beautiful though long (and not very comfortable) journey as you pass through mountains and forests and then through the mainly flat and rural Terai. Tickets cost from 2500 Nepalese Rupees (approx. US$20). Night buses also operate.
From Kathmandu by plane: There are also daily flights to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu for around US$135 which make the journey much shorter and easier. From Nepalgunj airport we can meet you and transfer you directly to the lodge (approx. 2 1/2 hours). The cost is US$60 per vehicle, each way (seats up to 3 plus luggage).
From Nepalgunj by bus: Several buses each day go to Ambasa, on the main road through the park, taking 3-4 hours and costing around 500 NR (approx. US$3). A handful of buses then run each day from Ambassa to Thakurdwara for around 100 NR (less than US$1). The journey takes around 30 minutes. You can also take a rickshaw (700Nr, approx. US$5) straight to the lodge. We can arrange these rickshaws for you, or arrange to have one of our team meet you at Ambasa and escort you to the lodge (prices on request).
From Mahendranagar: Daily buses run from Mahendrenagar to Kathmandu (alight at Ambasa), the bus takes around 4-5 hours, costing around 500 NR (approx. US$3).
From India: You can travel to Bardia from India by coming via Banbassa-Mahendranagar or Rupidha-Nepalgunj border crossing points.
From Lumbini: If you are travelling from Lumbini in a private vehicle then the road journey to the lodge will take around 8 hours.
From Chitwan: The journey from Chitwan to Bardia will take around 10-11 hours (this will become much faster when the east-west highway road improvements are complete).
From Pokhara: The journey from Pokhara to Bardia will take around 12 hours.
