Bengal Tiger, Bardia National Park

Tigers

A recent census was expected to estimate that the number of tigers in and around Bardia National Park is now over 100.

Nepal has also won international awards which set the challenge of doubling the population of tiger since 2010. The Award winner Bardia had less than 20 tigers in 2009, showing a huge increase to current numbers. This also makes this park the best tiger spotting place in all of Nepal!

The best time to see tigers is from February to May, as it is the summertime when temperatures can reach 40ºC and tigers go to the river more often to drink water and refresh themselves. Also as there is less water it is easier to predict where they will be. In general the more walking safari days you do while staying at the park, the more likely you are to see tigers.

For the encounter with the tigers, it is important to be patient, wait and follow the guide's instructions. It is also advisable to bring binoculars.

The best way to see the tigers is through walking safaris, namely at strategic observation points, awaiting their arrival.

As with all wildlife, although the chances of sighting are high, it may happen not to see the animal. It's important not to carry that expectation because even if you don't see it, the experience of walking in its habitat, following the tracks and footprints of such a powerful animal is in itself incomparable!

The tiger is a feline, being therefore a shy animal and that by itself moves away from people. However, it is difficult to predict the behaviour of a wild animal, so we have prepared and very experienced guides in the behaviour of animals, which allows greater safety during the jungle tour.
